I found this envelope pillow cover tutorial a while back and it was easy and right up my alley. I wanted to change it up just a bit and add a little something to it so I found some cute buttons at Joann's and added them to the pillow and I really like how they turned out. I left some plain as well. I cut some fabric wrong (happens to me a lot) so I still have one or two more to make but I need to find myself some smaller pillows. Here is how I made them, I'm not really a measuring kind of gal, my style is more of a "wrap the fabric around the thing to see if it will fit and sew it up" kind of thing. So here you go.
I bought a yard of each fabric pattern and each yard made two pillow covers.
My pillows were 17x17 and 19x19.
I copied the other tutorial for the first few I made that said to cut the fabric in a rectangle with the width the size of the pillow and the length should be double the pillow size and add 4 inches. So it would be 17x38.
Next, Hem the short sides
Here is where I stopped measuring. It was easier for me to lay the pillow above my fabric and fold it in on both sides (right sides together) making sure my pillow would fit inside the "envelope". Then I pinned the top and bottom and sewed across both.
Done. Unless you want to add buttons like I did. If you do want to add buttons, just find the center and sew a button hole and button onto your fabric. Then you're done. It only took me about 10 minutes to make each cover. I am excited to make more, they are super easy and it's a great way to add color to a room. I can't wait until I can decorate for Christmas time and make some to go with my Christmas decor!!
Fabulous job on the pillows! You are becoming quite the crafter. And....I love the paintings on the wall! Tell hubby excelent job!
