Trendy?

Me? not so much. But, this whole nail art trend going on caught my attention. I have a friend who always has some nail art going on. She does them herself and does an awesome job. The other night when she was over she was rockin' the nail art again...two colors, a base coat, and a diagonal stripe of another color. It was really cute. So today while I was on my weekly daily Target trip I thought to myself, "I can do that. it can't be that hard." (Said the lady who hardly ever paints her nails any color but clear because it usually ends up a disaster.) Of course I proceeded to buy not one, not two, but three nail polish colors to try out my new skill. I got the base coat on rather successfully. Then came the hard part, the design...if you can even call a diagonal line a design. That's when I started questioning myself.

What corner does the diagonal go on?
Do you do the same corner when you do your thumbs?
Does it go the same way on both hands?
Will it make my fingers look lopsided?
Should the diagonal color be bigger?
Is there even a right way to do this?

And since I didn't know the answer to any of my questions but was already in the middle of this process with wet nails, I decided to just wing it. And this was the result...

I'm pretty sure the "lines" look more like curves, my base coat that I thought was more brown looks grey, and I've already smudged at least 3. Seriously how long are you supposed to let them dry before you touch anything? I waited a good 40 seconds and then got bored. And how do you clean the polish off the side of your nail without using a different nail? Is there a tool for that? I'll have to start googling or pintersting "DIY nail art" because I have lots of new colors to use.
