Happy Birthday Mama!!
I found this wreath on Pinterest and immediatly thought of my mom. I figured she'd love it, so I made it for her birthday, which just happens to be today. Happy Birthday Mom! I am forever in debt to my mother on her birthday's not only because it's her birthday but because, I will admit, I forgot her birthday a few years ago. Can you believe that??? I forgot my own mother's birthday. Can we say horribly daughter?? I didn't even realize it until my sister called me the following day while I was shopping and asked why I didn't call Mom the day before. When I asked why and she responded with "because it was her birthday" I felt horrible. I will probably never forget that moment. Who does that? Who forgets their own mother's birthday? So I now prepare for it the whole beginning of the month of July and remind myself every day. So, I did not forget this year! So, I went and spent the evening with her last night while she was watching my nieces. She is such an amazing mother and grandma. I can't wait until my future kids get to enjoy their Grandma Grammy. It was great to be able to spend some time with her relaxing and chatting. That's what I miss most about living back at home, talking with my mom and knowing that advice is just a room away. If I didn't have my mom I would probably be at the doctor way more often asking about this rash or that spot or what the heck is wrong with my eye. I'd have to find someone else to call every time I want to hard boil an egg, and I'd probably still be driving around lost in Shoreview somewhere. Thank goodness in college I had unlimited phone minutes, because for at least the first few months not a day went by that I didn't call my mom. She has raised me well and helped me to become an independent woman. I am so thankful for her. Again, Happy Birthday Mama!!
Now, if you want to make the wreath, here's how:
I bought a stick wreath, a spool of jute and few different fabric remnants in coordinating colors from Joann's. Then, I made the fabric into fabric flowers. You can find the tutorials for those here and here. The twisted flowers are super simple to make. For the other ones you will need a needle and thread and something to trace a circle out of. After I made the flowers, I simply hot glued the flowers to the wreath, tied the jute around the other side and hot glued the ends down so it wouldn't unravel. I really like how it turned out and kind of want to make another one for myself.
